My comment on the article regarding Yeast infection and diabetes. Though informative it did not discuss the incidense of yeast infections
in infants, toddlers, and young children before type 1 diagnosis. This happens in significant numbers and should be part of early warning
signs of diabetes! Increase thirst, wetting and even wet loss are suttle in a younster or infant and in my own personal experience reoccuring
yeast infections in my daughter were months before diagnosis. At 3 years old her FBS was 468 at home, and upon admission to hospital A1c
was 17.7 she was not in DKA yet clearly had been diabetic for sometime. From speaking with many other parents their children both male and
female alike presented with yeast, days, weeks, or months before diagnosis. This could be key in preventing DKA in onset of Type 1 in pediatrics.
Diabetes should be ruled out routinely for unknown, severe, and/or reoccuring yeast infections in pediatrics (and et.al.)
Many parents go through their children going into DKA and coma end up Life Flighted out to Diabetes Centers and spend days in a PICU...
Diabetes Type 1 is not sudden onset as many state my son is antibody positive for almost 1 year and his glucose intolerance is just increasing slowly.
As, we watch the process intensify when ill hopefully we will have an onset that is easily managed through outpatient and he will have a nice long
honeymoon which happens when diagnosed early on... we wait and see.
I hope future articles will include what's happening today with the tiniest, most vulnerable, innocent victims of diabetes those infants, toddlers, and
young children diagnosed with Type 1. My daughter was diagnosed in 1999, I applaud your mission at DiabetesAmerica.org we all need to know
more about diabetes! Especially the medical professionals that we all rely on.
